Common Signs of a Slab Leak
You may have heard that slab leaks are more difficult to detect than other types of plumbing issues, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve put together a list of common signs that your house may be suffering from a slab leak.
If you notice that the floors are always wet and you don’t have water-damaged flooring or carpeting, there’s a good chance that you have a slab leak. This is because water will typically pool around the point where the pipe enters the ground, so if you notice standing water near any pipes, it’s likely that they’re leaking somewhere underground or under your home.
if you notice discolored areas on your walls or ceilings—usually in smooth lines—this could also be an indication of a slab leak. These discolorations are caused by minerals in water corroding metal pipes over time and causing them to rust out more quickly than usual; this corrosion can eventually cause leaks within the pipes themselves when they become too weak to hold up against pressure from aboveground sources like snowmelt during winter months when temperatures drop below freezing levels.
Hot spots on floors
If you continually notice hot spots on your floor in your home, it could be an indication of a burst hot water pipe beneath the slab. This is a tell-tale sign of a slab leak and should be addressed immediately!
High water bills
Notice your water bills continuing to climb? This could be a sign that you have a hidden water leak. If you notice your water consumption is higher than normal (refer to the usage chart on your water bill) then you might have a slab leak!
